Nine Emperor Gods Festival
|
|
Ipoh, Perak- The Buddhists celebrate the nine-day festival of the Nine Emperor Gods, which started last Tuesday (9-Oct-2007).
At the temples filled with incense smoke, urns are brimming with burning joss sticks. The temples are also brightly lit and decorated with yellow flags for the celebration, which is dedicated to the nine sons of Tou Mu, Goddess of the North Star. Activities lined up by the temples during the nine-day period include rituals such as walking on burning coals and walking up blade ladders to stirring hot nutmeg oil with bare hands.
Makeshift stalls near the temples sell all sorts of prayer paraphernalia for devotees to offer to the Kew Ong Yeah while vegetarian stalls are everywhere dishing out various foods for devotees who have be-come vegetarians for the nine or 10 days
